Morning Dew
words and music

The sun beats down at the
break of day
We pull up the covers to chase it away
But we know we’ve got to open up our eyes
I fear this farm’s made me into a slave
Plowing the ground till it grows me a grave
Morning dew, do go away
Though stallions stir and neigh
And milk cows moo that breakfast is late
Today they’ll have to wait
Cause I don’t plan to leave this warm bed til you and I are dead
We’ll sleep the cold winter through, we’ll keep the animals fed
By dreaming them full of food -- just you and I in the nude
No, I won’t mind wasting the rest of my lifetime with you
Under the covers, me and you
The roof rots in after fifty-two years
We’re bed-numb and senile from the sores on our rears
And the sky pours in with rain and fireflies
So kiss me, love, and hold me tight
And thank the dear Lord we made it through another night
Now morning dew awakes the day
While stallions stir and neigh
And milk cows moo that breakfast is late
They’ll simply have to wait
Cause I don’t plan to leave this warm bed til you and I are dead
We’ll sleep the cold winter through, we’ll keep the animals fed
By dreaming them full of food -- just you and I in the nude
No, I won’t mind wasting the rest of my lifetime with you
